George
Couchell founded Showmars in 1982. George, or "Mr. C" as he
is known throughout the company, previously owned Mr. C's Restaurants,
specializing in Southern Style Country Friend Chicken. Mr. C is a Duke
University graduate and a formal Naval Officer who grew up in the
restaurant business working at his family restaurant Johnny's Grill.
Since childhood, he had a passion for the business and was determined
to create a multi-unit company that was unique in the marketplace.
After much
experimentation with Mr. C's, George Couchell dropped the fried
chicken moniker and adopted the Showmars name with a fresh new idea.
He began with the premise of developing a menu that was appealing to
everyone, had variety and value, and that was fresh and fast.
